Cloudy Skies on the Horizon

Good news – clouds are lined up in the sky like thirsty dogs at a watering hole on a hot day. I think a storm could be coming. With that, this time of year in this area of the country, there could always be the possibility of a cold front – even snow! Wouldn’t that be grand! My friends don’t share that opinion, so I try to keep it to myself. But here’s hoping …..

Swimming in Tepkins’ Pond

I tried swimming in Tepkins’ pond today. In hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have entered the pond with a cannon ball. That was a mistake! I tipped Tepkins’ lily pad over like a tea kettle; French flies went flying. Tepkins is good humored about everything so he and I wound up laughing so hard that I almost swallowed a French fly. Tepkins did, but then he likes those things – not me! It did pass the time and now we are one day closer to Winter.

Swimming in Lucy’s Pond

I realize now that time will pass too slowly if I just hide at home while I shed. So I ventured out yesterday. I took a swim in Lucy’s pond today, which made the ducks she watches fly all different directions. It also made Lucy worry that they would never return (then what would she do with her time?). One thing is for certain, the dip in the pond helped with my shedding and, despite my making a mess of Lucy’s den, I feel like a new dog. The water was cold and refreshing. The next best thing to snow, I’d say. The ducks returned the moment I finished shaking off. Lucy immediately stopped worrying. All is well in the woods. I might go swim at Tepkins’ pond tomorrow. Anything to cool off…

Bad news!

Bad news. I know I mentioned already that the snow is gone, so that’s not “new” bad news. It has been warm here lately. The sun has been shining and the wildflowers are all a bloom (keeping Jughead very busy and preoccupied with all the scents, of course). Another thing comes along with those warmer temperatures and sunny days – I AM SHEDDING! Oh no. I will probably stay close to home for a while because I’m only half the husky I used to be. The rest of “me” is laying in clumps on the ground. This wait for winter is going to be worse than I ever imagined. I would start a countdown, but it might only make the process of winter coming feel longer. I can only hope for a late Spring snow, although I might freeze if I don’t have my coat! Either way….

Which way is North?

Back from my “expotition.” Now that I think about it….. It might have been handy knowing which way was North when I went in search of the North Pole yesterday. I was going to ask Fred the llama, but I got so focussed on looking for the North Pole that I not only couldn’t find it, but I got lost myself. I walked in circles in our woods until I caught a glimpse of the top of my own dog house. I was so happy to have found home that I decided to call it a day. Maybe I will go talk to Fred later and ask him which way is North….I hope North isn’t that far away.

“Expotition” to the North Pole

Last night I fell asleep reading the Winnie the Pooh book, “An Expotition to the North Pole.” That Winnie is a clever bear. He wasn’t sure what the North Pole was or even what it looked like, but he went out to search for it. He and his trusty pal, Christopher Robin, found what they thought was the North Pole on that “Expotition” (even though they weren’t sure what they were after all along). I think I feel inspired. I don’t know what the North Pole looks like, but I know that things in the North are generally cold. Perhaps today I will go on an “expotition” of my own…

Another Spring Day

I woke up this morning to another Spring day. The robins were chirp, chirp, chirping; the chickens were cluck, cluck, clucking; and the llamas were ….. well, llamas don’t really make any sounds, but they were up.

Spring doesn’t last very long here, so one Spring day means we are one day closer to winter. Here’s to another Spring day …

Three Seasons to Go…

It is with a heavy heart that I state, “the final snow has melted from my woods.” In order to help pass the time during the next three (hopefully short) seasons, I will focus on my journal. I’m even going to try to occupy myself with Pinterest; everyone I talk to says that Pinterest is great for occupying time! I’m already on Facebook – all I have to do is make some friends. Here’s hoping this speeds the snow along or at least the time…
